How much maintenance or repair will be required? How much will it cost? Here are some things to know.
Why to Get Your Fence Repaired
Wooden fences are strong and durable, but they can be vulnerable to many things. For example, wood can be vulnerable to insects. Termites specifically can be damaging to wood. Termite issues can be fixed by buying treated wood or buying wood that is naturally resistant to bugs or termites, such as cedar or teak.
If not treated, the wood can discolour or warp. Speaking of warped planks, planks that are warped or have a large crack need to be replaced. Minor cracks or small holes can be fixed with putty or wood filler. If you are unsure of what supplies to buy for your fence, you can consult with one of our Carman fence builders
Wood fences can also get damaged by years of weather exposure. Water can cause the wood to permeate to wood’s membranes, causing it to rot, soften, and ultimately, fall apart. The moisture can also lead to mold growth, which can require expensive restoration work. Certain areas in Manitoba also have cold and dry winters, and have hot summers. Certain types of wood don’t handle this type of weather, leading it to require more repairs and maintenance.
Chain-link fences can get scratched, bent, and rusted over time and years of exposure, but can be repaired quickly. The damaged part of a fence can be repaired easily by getting it cut out and replaced without any major disturbance.
Overall, chain-link fences require less maintenance than wooden fences, and the longevity and durability are also much better than wood.
Staying Up To Date With Maintenance
Make sure to properly wash your wooden fence every once in a while because the dirt and debris can cause irreversible damage. Washing it occasionally can also be beneficial for keeping your fence strong, sturdy, and beautiful for many years to come. Also make sure to inspect for any damages or signs of wear and tear so it can be fixed before any bigger problems arise.

Chain–link fences need to be sealed to protect them from rust. Applying some wax or other sealant products that are protective will keep your fence protected from rain or debris.
It’s also important to clean and inspect chain-link fences every once in a while. Cleaning your fence regularly helps to reduce any dirt build-up which is a very simple thing to fix. To repair it, all you have to do is take some sandpaper or steel wool, sand it off, and repaint it or apply a sealant.
